Week 1 Reflection: Keep Calm and Don't Stop Critiquing

I made this poster to express how do I feel after the week 1 assignments were completed. I became a jogging last year and participated my first Half Marathon. To me, getting the first week homework done was like running a Half Marathon. The hardest part is the beginning 3 miles. My heart rate is high, legs are getting fatigue, I can hear my body is asking me to stop, for a just a little bit. But I knew, if I keep going, the discomfort would go away gradually, my body is going to adapt the new speed and every move would become a motion. I would reach to my goal a little bit faster if I don't stop.

Now, on to the assignments:

  1. How well do you feel you completed the requirements of the week’s assignments? What give you trouble, what did you enjoy the most?Well, I feel the DS106 visual and TDCs are probably the funnest and easiest one to do. I had some rough time to figure out how to annotate through Hypnosis.is but Lisa's blog helped me a lot and I found it is really egaging and fasniating. The toughest part is to write critique for the required reading. The paper is talking about lots of abstract theories in academic vocabulary. It was not easy for me, a new immigrant, to understand. So I went back to read it several times and constantly looked up words from Google, and even grabbed my husband to ask his opinion about some paragraphs. Well, I think I pulled it off for the round 1 assignments and are ready for next week's challenge.

  2. What would you do differently? What questions do you have? This week I felt I didn't have enough time to read the recommended reading because I spent too much time on the required reading. Next week, I would prioritize my time more wisely and may use some bits and pieces time to do more reading( such as the time I idled when my daughter was taking her swimming class). My biggest question is how to make my assignments related to my career. I would rather the TDCs and visual assignments I created would somehow also be useful in my lesson plan.

  3. Provide a self assessment of your work quality and effort. I believe that I’m just meeting expectations, but not quite exceeding expectations. I met every deadline and completed every task according to rubrics on the DS106 website and expectations outlined in the syllabus. I also did troubleshooting issues, reaching out for help, and by trying to make sure that all of my work was followed by the provided rubrics. I am not exceeding the expectation is because of the limited English vocabulary I have( you probably already found out how plain and dull it is by far). Writing in academic tone is really challening for me.
