Week 7 Reflective Summary

Week 7 is the last week of regular assignments and it feels like time just flies by. on last Friday, my 14 years old Camry finally died on the road, so I pretty much spent the whole weekend shopping with dealers. Luckily I was able to get a good deal on leasing. I am glad that I finished most of the required tasks before Friday, when emergency like this happened, I would not have to worry about unfinished school work.

Among all the works, the Daily Creates and a visual Assignment from the DS106 Assignment Bank are my favorites. If I looked back on the first week of Digital Storytelling, I remembered how struggling and overwhelmed I was. Finishing a simple task on DC seemed not that simple. On week 7, I have explored several photo editing apps(Color Pop, Piscart, Sketchmee, etc) and knew some basics of how to use them. I enjoyed working on these assignment, because them not only gave me chances to get familiar with new technologies but also provided opportunities to express myself and got connected with others.

I definitely agree that digital storytelling is a great way to promote interest of students and improve their literacy level on the social and cultural aspects. However, one of the challenges this week, like I expressed through annotation, was finding it hard to have that much time devoted to mentor one child when the reality in my class is I have 25 students in one class and several of them have learning disability. It is not the excuse of not to trying the new pedagogy though, just need to explore the ways that I can incorporate that with my students.

In terms of overall performance this week, I’m tempted to give myself an “meeting expectations” because I have put lots of thoughts when finishing Daily Creates, visual assignment, story critique and annotation. I have made my "voice" through my work and I hope you can see it!
